Irish coffee tastes even better après ski
What a tea house is to hiking, après ski is to skiing. “Après ski” is French for “After skiing” and refers to the socializing activity made popular by skiers in the Alps. When on the last few runs on the slopes, skiers in full ski gear often stop at an après ski bar. Après ski bars were made popular in Austria, France and Switzerland, but ski resorts in the United States like Grand Targhee in Wyoming and ski resorts in Colorado and Denver offer fantastic après ski options as well. Après ski is a great way to unwind and make new friends after an exhilarating day spent on the slopes!
The Trap Bar & Grill offers 13 beers on tap!
What does one need after spending the day skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing? Just off the top of my head, how about – Live music. Specialty cocktails along with 13 beers on tap. A gourmet menu that includes Idaho potato tater tots tossed with garlic oil, chilli flakes & pecorino, as well as “Teton Nachos” which are exactly like its namesake – the biggest mountain of nacho chips with the works that you’ve ever laid eyes on! It is refreshing to walk into the Trap Bar and Grill at Grand Targhee ski resort and find all this and more!

Grand Targhee prides itself on its laidback and rustic atmosphere and this is evident even in their après ski scene. Walking into the Trap Bar & Grill, one is greeted with big friendly smiles and hand waves from strangers. Settling down at a cozy table, I got the Targhee Tots (I admit it, I saw “Idaho potatoes” in the description and had no choice but to get it. Wouldn’t you too?) which come tossed with garlic oil, chilli flakes (deliciously spicy!) and grated pecorino. Sounds gourmet, doesn’t it? It tastes heavenly too.

Warming up with an Irish coffee, I turned my attention to the live music scene that was also starting to heat up. Grand Targhee hosts a number of great performers at the Trap Bar & Grill every weekend. Check out the lineup here! I was lucky to see Winship and Sneed perform live.

Strumming their mandolin and guitar, Winship and Sneed set the pace with some foot-tapping music that had all of us applauding for more. With an impressive lineup of performers every weekend, it’s no surprise that for many people who visit Grand Targhee, spending the evening at the Trap Bar & Grill is a definite highlight of their day.

By the end of the evening, I had made several new friends, eaten gourmet dishes and warmed up with much needed Irish coffee. If only every ski resort had an après ski bar to hang out at! Grand Targhee does the après ski scene wonderfully and I cannot wait to go back to experience this again!
